Custom Wedding Trio

Friday, November 21st, 2014

I have my irons in a few fires right now. I’m almost finished my current schooling (Addiction Counselling at VCC), working part time downsizing seniors and spending any available time hanging out with Stephanie at Tiny Finery! Sometimes I actually make jewellery when I’m there.  A couple of weeks ago, a sister of an old friend from hairdressing days contacted me about making some wedding rings.  They were tying the knot in 10 days, and proceeding in a very cool and casual way – which I thought was very cool.  I was honoured to take on the job.  We went with a very simple and lightweight silver band for the groom – and for the bride we made a gold blob ring, using her childhood gold earrings and gold bracelet she got for grad -with the same simple, lightweight silver band.  Lastly, she asked me to make something for their little daughter.  We made a wee silver domed heart with a gypsy set garnet, which is her birthstone.  I say “we” because it was a collaboration. Their ideas mixed with my ideas which I constructed into solid forms. that’s how good wedding rings get made.

Athena

Monday, February 18th, 2013

My brother retrieved some photos and things from my old yellowed computer tower that’s been sitting in the garage. A lot of them are from the summer of 2005. Just over 7 years ago. This photo, which I love because it looks very Star Wars, is of the Athena cuff.

Our trip down South

Sunday, November 4th, 2012

We took a trip this past fall: Seattle-Nashville-Louisville-Roanoke-Charlotte-Atlanta (and there abouts).  We ate so much delicious food, saw many old friends, and were the ring leaders in a family hootenany.  I took pictures of some of my favorite meals and attractions.

Super Bracelet

Monday, September 10th, 2012

lightning bolt bracelets

Back to school, kiddies.  Carry those magical summer storms with you by wearing this lightning bolt at all times. Made with recycled sterling silver -embossed, forged, finished and patinated by hand in my studio- and tied on with a strip of soft, supple deer hide.  Tie it on and leave it on.

September is still summer

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

Yes. It is. And here in Vancouver all the flowers are peaking, and we’re finally getting some tomatoes, damn it. Let’s enjoy it. Wear this copper anatomical heart with brass lightning bolt pendant and hold on to that feeling.

Hand forged elements made in studio. Sterling silver chain.

Sundara

Sundara

I’m designing a line of jewelry for one of my favorite places, Sundara. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounded by apple orchards, it’s the home of my mom’s sister, after whom I am named.  She’s made many folks happy by sharing this amazing place as a venue for weddings and special events. The pieces I’ve designed are inspired by it’s beauty, and represent some of the magical moments that abound there – including a recycled sterling silver pendant set with a sparkly citrine and hand engraved to resemble one of the Mason jar lanterns that light up the trees.

Vic

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

Vic Chesnutt, the great Southern poet and song crafter for whom I blog today, put every bloody bit of himself in those stark, delicate, raw, biting and bright songs.  He was an underground living legend often seen around town, performing or attending, in the late 80s/early 90s when I was living in Athens, GA. The day I left Athens, my good buddy Brad made me a gift of all his Vic Chesnutt cds, which consisted of Little, West of Rome, and Drunk. I lived in Honolulu for a few years after that, listening to the only one of those that was not too scratched to play (Little) over and over.

Come with me

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

These are my Ode to Georgia. I lived there nine formative years and it really got under my skin. There is a darkness. But it’s also so alive. Copper peaches with cubic zirconia and citrine. Sterling silver chains. Hand engraved one at a time.
